About the Motif
The Giant Panda has been the emblem of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) since 1961 and an internationally recognized icon of the species conservation movement. Its appearance — black-and-white fur pattern, leisurely chewing posture, bamboo-only diet — has made it one of the few animals immediately recognizable across languages and cultures.
On Crypto Stamp 2.0, designer David Gruber renders the panda in heavily reduced, near-geometric form, in keeping with the credit card format of 86 × 54 mm.
Dual Meaning in Crypto
Within crypto culture, "panda" is more than just a charming animal: the term serves as slang for mid-sized investors. In the prevailing size taxonomy of the crypto community, whales represent very large market participants, pandas represent mid-tier players, and shrimps or plankton represent small retail investors. This hierarchy shapes Discord trading communities and the conversation around large wallet movements on the blockchain.
Choosing the panda for Crypto Stamp 2.0 plays cleverly with this dual meaning — wildlife conservation and crypto slang in one.
Pre-Order and Availability
Within the four-motif set, Panda ranked second in popularity behind Doge. Pre-orders opened 20 May 2020; on 5 June, the Geldmarie reported the motif was sold out in the Post's online shop. The pre-order phase and the official issue date (25 June 2020) thus lay three weeks apart, during which Panda was no longer available through official channels.
Compared to CS 1.0 a difference becomes apparent: while the first edition's single motif at 150,000 pieces served a broader collector base, the finer division of CS 2.0 (60,000 per motif) meant each individual motif sold out far faster.
Secondary Market
Crypto Stamp 2.0 Panda is available today on Delcampe, eBay, and through specialized stamp dealers. Black variants (31,380 pieces) are well-distributed and typically trade between 25 and 80 EUR. Green and blue variants command premium prices. Red Pandas (600 pieces) — the rarest variant of the motif — have seen the strongest price appreciation, with collector auctions regularly fetching three- to four-figure sums.
Place in the Set
Within the four motifs, Panda holds a particular position: it is the only motif without an immediately humorous meme reference. While Doge, Lama, and Honey Badger all clearly point to internet memetics, Panda represents the "serious" side of the four — a bridge between crypto culture and mainstream-acceptable symbolism. Whether this was a design choice or a consequence of WWF trademark concerns is not publicly documented.

How quickly did the Panda variant sell out?
On 5 June 2020 — about two weeks after pre-orders opened and roughly three weeks before the official issue date. Panda was the second of the four CS 2.0 motifs to leave the online shop.
Where can I buy a Crypto Stamp 2.0 Panda today?
No longer available from Österreichische Post at original release. Secondary markets include Delcampe, eBay, and specialized stamp dealers such as Borek, Tyrol-Phila, and Nordfrim. Black variants are usually affordable; red variants command collector prices.
