Bilateral crypto stamp editions between Switzerland and Liechtenstein · 2025
CHLI Joint Editions — Switzerland × Liechtenstein
The CHLI joint edition line is a bilateral crypto stamp family between Swiss Post and Liechtensteinische Post. It started on 4 June 2025 with CHLI 1.0 — the first joint crypto stamp of both countries with Matterhorn (CH), Vaduz Castle (LI), and a cow as centerpiece, issued in 6 color variants (Green, Blue, Yellow, Orange, Pink, Rainbow). CHLI 2.0 of 19 November 2025 builds on this: same motifs but with a halving mechanic and winter look.

What is the CHLI Joint Edition?
The CHLI Joint Edition is a bilateral crypto stamp family between Schweizerische Post AG (Swiss Post) and Liechtensteinische Post AG — the first and so far only bilateral crypto stamp collaboration between Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The name "CHLI" is a portmanteau of the country codes CH (Switzerland, Confoederatio Helvetica) and LI (Liechtenstein) — an elegant typographical connection of the two neighboring countries.
The line currently comprises two editions:
- CHLI 1.0 (04.06.2025) — the premiere
- CHLI 2.0 (19.11.2025) — the second generation with halving mechanic
Political-Historical Context
Switzerland and Liechtenstein share an exceptionally close political-economic bond that makes a bilateral crypto stamp edition strategically sensible:
1. Customs treaty since 1923. Both countries form a single customs area.
2. Shared currency. Liechtenstein has used the Swiss franc as official currency since 1924.
3. Joint foreign and security policy. In many foreign policy areas, Liechtenstein acts in close coordination with Switzerland.
4. Postal service history. Until 2000, the Liechtenstein postal service was co-operated by Swiss Post — Liechtensteinische Post AG has been independent only since 1999.
5. Geographical proximity. Liechtenstein lies between Switzerland and Austria, with all border crossings either to Switzerland or Austria.
These deep connections make the CHLI joint edition more than a marketing-driven collaboration — it reflects a grown state-administrative relationship between the two neighbors.
CHLI 1.0 (04.06.2025) — The Premiere
CHLI 1.0 is the first joint crypto stamp by Swiss Post and Liechtensteinische Post. The edition unites three iconic symbols of both countries:
1. Matterhorn (4,478 m, Valais) — the Swiss landmark par excellence.
2. Vaduz Castle — seat of the Liechtenstein Princely Family and landmark of Liechtenstein.
3. A proud cow as centerpiece — symbol of the shared alpine agricultural culture connecting both countries.
The edition was issued in 6 color variants: Green, Blue, Yellow, Orange, Pink, and Rainbow — analogous to the Austrian crypto stamp color scheme since CS 1.0 (Black/Green/Blue/Yellow/Red), but with its own Swiss-Liechtenstein color palette.
CHLI 2.0 (19.11.2025) — Halving Mechanic
CHLI 2.0 builds on the motifs of CHLI 1.0 — Matterhorn, Vaduz Castle, cow — but adds two central innovations:
Innovation 1: The Halving Mechanic
The structural premiere of CHLI 2.0 is the halving mechanic: the physical and digital stamp consists of two parts:
- Left half: Exclusively available at Swiss Post
- Right half: Exclusively available at Liechtensteinische Post
The complete motif is visible only when both halves are joined — both as physical stamp (by placing them next to each other) and as digital NFT (through bilateral ownership).
This mechanic is unique worldwide: no other crypto stamp edition actively requires collectors to buy at two different postal services to obtain a complete stamp. This is more than national background variations (like the AT/NL/LU/BE variants of Österreichische Post) — it is a structural joint edition concept.
Innovation 2: AI-Generated Cow + Winter Look
The CHLI 2.0 cow was generated with artificial intelligence (using software like MidJourney) and supplemented with backgrounds from Liechtensteinische Post and color-adjusted. Unlike the CHLI 1.0 cow, the CHLI 2.0 cow wears a red cap — fitting to the icy winter landscape.
The AI component draws a direct line to SCS 3.0 (02.05.2023), the world's first AI crypto stamp, and shows: AI-generated crypto stamps are now established in Switzerland.
Mintage Structure (Example CHLI 2.0)
CHLI 2.0 has a very finely granular mintage tiering — presumably also CHLI 1.0 with similar logic:
| Edition | Mintage CH | Mintage LI | Price per Stamp |
|---|---|---|---|
| Green | 3,500 | 3,500 | CHF 9.90 (8.50 + 1.40) |
| Blue | ~1,500 | ~1,500 | ~CHF 29 (8.50 + 20.50) |
| Yellow | ~750 | ~750 | ~CHF 99 (8.50 + 90.50) |
| Orange | ~400 | ~400 | medium price |
| Pink | 150 | 150 | CHF 299 (8.50 + 290.50) |
| Rainbow | ~50 | ~50 | CHF 499 |
Special covers have respectively lower mintages (Green: 1,250/1,250; Pink: 15/15; Rainbow: 5/5).
In total, this yields a tiered collector hierarchy similar to SCS 3.0 (65,000 → 50) — addressing different collector segments and price levels.
Cancellation Rules
A special feature of the CHLI stamps is the strict separation of cancellation rules:
- Swiss CHLI stamps may be canceled only with Swiss postmarks
- Liechtenstein CHLI stamps may be canceled only with Liechtenstein postmarks
Exception: If both stamps are arranged on a document such that they can be canceled simultaneously with a single postmark from either country, this is allowed. This rule creates special philatelic collector documents — letters with both stamps and both postmarks simultaneously.
Design Principles of the CHLI Line
Several design principles can be recognized from the two editions to date:
1. Symmetry of the countries. Both countries are represented equally: Matterhorn (CH) on equal footing with Vaduz Castle (LI), CH mintage equal to LI mintage per edition.
2. Cow as connecting symbol. Instead of national symbols as competition (Swiss Cross vs. Liechtenstein Coat of Arms), the cow as common alpine symbol was chosen — a deliberate choice of connectedness instead of rivalry.
3. Tiered color variants. 6 colors with various mintages create a classic crypto stamp collector game — analogous to the Austrian model.
4. Innovation per edition. CHLI 1.0 brought the joint edition concept; CHLI 2.0 brought the halving mechanic + AI component. This continuous innovation is a signature of the Swiss-Liechtenstein crypto stamp world.
Significance in Crypto Stamp History
The CHLI joint line marks several important points:
- First CH-LI joint edition worldwide: Bilateral premiere
- Halving mechanic in CHLI 2.0: Unique structural innovation
- AI generation adopted: SCS 3.0 heritage in the joint line
- Very finely granular mintage tiering: 3,500 → 5 in CHLI 2.0
- Strict cancellation discipline: Philatelic tradition meets blockchain
- Symbolic CH-LI bond: Common cow instead of national competition
The CHLI joint line is thus not merely another crypto stamp family but a strategic statement about the relationship between Switzerland and Liechtenstein: two postal services that see themselves not as competitors but as complementary partners in a shared crypto stamp vision.
