Australia Post
Australia Post, the state postal administration of Australia, was founded in 1809. In March 2026, Australia Post issued the Year of the Horse DigiStamps — the first crypto stamps using soulbound tokens (SBT) instead of traditional NFTs. SBTs cannot be transferred between wallets and remain permanently linked to the physical stamp card. This token standard was developed in 2022 by Vitalik Buterin, Puja Ohlhaver and E Glen Weyl. The DigiStamps use the Polygon blockchain, with StampFinity (Austria) as technical partner. Design by Chrissy Lau from Sydney. No app download or wallet setup required — the digital collectibles are displayed online.

SBT Concept and Buterin Origin
Soulbound tokens were conceived in 2022 by Vitalik Buterin (Ethereum co-founder) together with Puja Ohlhaver and E Glen Weyl. Original use case:
- Permanent linking of credentials
- Diplomas, certificates, memberships
- "Soul" = persistent identity, "bound" = irrevocably linked
Australia Post innovation: first commercial crypto stamp application of the SBT concept.
Anti-NFT-Hype Strategy
The SBT choice is a deliberate reaction to the NFT market crash 2022-2026:
- 2021: NFT hype peak (Bored Apes, CryptoPunks)
- 2022-2024: 95-99% value loss of many NFTs, rugpulls, hacks
- 2025-2026: Market consolidation, anti-speculator sentiment
- Australia Post 2026: SBT as serious anti-speculation model
Statement by Kayla Le Cornu (Australia Post GM Retail Product): "DigiStamps marks a defining moment in the history of collecting".

StampFinity Partnership
Australia Post uses StampFinity as tech partner — same tech provider as:
- Austrian Post (AT, Variuscard pioneer 2019)
- Guernsey Post (GG, 2024 cancelled)
- Emirates Post (UAE, 2021)
- Faroe Islands (FO, 2023)
StampFinity is thus structurally central in the global crypto stamp ecosystem — serves multiple pioneer issuers with standardized architecture.

Australia Post closes the Oceania gap in the global crypto stamp ecosystem.
Future Strategy
With only one edition (Year of the Horse 2026), the programme strategy is still unclear:
- Annual Lunar New Year DigiStamps (Tiger 2034, etc.)?
- Extension to other themes (sports, wildlife, heritage)?
- Cross-collaboration with NZ Post (VeVe-based)?
Wiki documents: active with pilot phase.
Significance in the Wiki
Australia Post is structurally central in the wiki as:
- Pioneer of Oceania and Australia
- First soulbound token crypto stamp worldwide
- StampFinity tech partnership (links to AT pioneer)
- Anti-NFT-hype strategy as alternative collector model
- No-wallet-required onboarding as Web3 simplification
- Chrissy Lau as artist designer
- 216 years of stamp tradition + SBT tech (tradition + innovation)
Australia Post extends the wiki coverage with the previously missing Oceania region and establishes soulbound tokens as new crypto stamp tech category.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are soulbound tokens (SBT) and why does Australia Post use them?
Soulbound tokens (SBT) are a token standard conceived in 2022 by Vitalik Buterin (Ethereum co-founder) together with Puja Ohlhaver and E Glen Weyl. Main characteristic: non-transferable — an SBT cannot be transferred between wallets. Original use case: permanent linking of credentials (diplomas, certificates, memberships) with a person, without sale or transfer possibility. Australia Post application: DigiStamps are permanently linked with the physical stamp card. Strategic logic: (1) Anti-speculation: no NFT pumps, no rugpulls, no market manipulation. (2) Collector focus: digital tokens function like physical stamps — are collected, not speculatively traded. (3) Anti-hype backlash: 2024-2026 NFT market collapsed, collectors cautious. SBT choice positions Australia Post as serious collector issuer, not as NFT speculator. (4) Simplification: no wallet setup needed, since tokens are not transferable — low entry barrier for collectors.
Why is StampFinity the tech partner?
StampFinity is an Austrian tech firm that is the tech partner of numerous crypto stamp programmes: Austrian Post (AT, Variuscard pioneer 2019), Guernsey Post (GG, 2024 cancelled), Emirates Post (UAE, 2021), Faroe Islands (FO), and more. StampFinity has co-developed the NFT crypto stamp architecture that shapes the Variuscard model. Significance for Australia Post: (1) Tech consistency: same stack as AT pioneer = proven architecture. (2) Crypto stamp expertise: StampFinity has ~7+ years experience with NFT stamps. (3) SBT innovation: StampFinity extends its portfolio with soulbound token implementation — Australia Post as test case. (4) Tech cluster: shows structural centralism of the global crypto stamp ecosystem — few tech partners (StampFinity, BitX, Poste-Italiane-Internal, etc.) serve many issuers.
