About the Luxembourg Artemis Variant

Crypto stamp Artemis is POST Luxembourg's third crypto stamp and its contribution to the first quintilateral joint edition. It follows Cryptostamp 1.0 Lion (2023, trilateral) and Crypto Stamp 2.0 Dragon (2024, quadrilateral). POST Luxembourg has participated in all joint editions since 2023.

Symbolism: Goddess of Wilderness and the Moon

Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt, wilderness, forests, birth, and the moon — daughter of Zeus and sister of Apollo. She is one of the twelve Olympian gods. Her iconographic attributes:

  • Bow and arrow: symbol of the huntress
  • Stag: sacred animal and companion
  • Moon: Artemis as moon goddess (contrasting Apollo as sun deity)
  • Quiver: contains silver arrows
  • Dog: hunting companion

Significance for Luxembourg

The Artemis motif connects to Luxembourg's natural landscape:

Forest coverage. Luxembourg has 35% forest cover, higher than France, Belgium, or the Netherlands. The forests support wild boars, deer, roe deer, foxes, and over 200 bird species.

Mëllerdall region. The Mullerthal (Luxembourgish: Mëllerdall) in eastern Luxembourg features sandstone formations, deep gorges, and forests. The region has been recognized by UNESCO since 2011.

Ardennes. Northern Luxembourg connects to the Ardennes, a forested highland region extending across Belgium, Luxembourg, and France.

Hunting tradition. Luxembourg maintains a hunting culture linked to former Grand Ducal hunting grounds.

Design Specifics

Lisa Filzi designed the LU variant depicting the hunting goddess with bow, quiver, and stag companion. The color scheme uses nature tones (forest green, deer brown), distinct from the CS 5.2 Dragon LU variant colors.

Mintage and Pricing

Total mintage: 15,000 pieces — matching POST Luxembourg's standard since Cryptostamp 1.0 Lion (2023). The red variant at 1% represents 150 pieces — the smallest absolute red variant mintage across CS 6.

Retail price: EUR 10.30, up from EUR 9.00 for previous LU editions. The price corresponds to Luxembourg's national registered letter rate size M.

Distribution

POST Philately distributes through:

  1. POST Philately online store at postphilately.lu — primary online channel with worldwide shipping
  2. Philatelic Counter at 13 Rue Robert Stumper, Cloche d'Or, Luxembourg-Gasperich
  3. Espaces POST — physical POST branches
  4. Regular post offices throughout Luxembourg
  5. 200-set bundle via Österreichische Post (all 5 national CS 6 stamps for EUR 75)

Secondary Market

The red LU Artemis has the smallest mintage (150 pieces) among CS 6 editions. Collectors seeking the complete red 5-god set will find the LU variant most scarce.

Black Artemis stamps are expected to trade on Delcampe, eBay, and Catawiki in the EUR 30-80 range, with a premium over Lion and Dragon due to the higher retail price base (EUR 10.30 versus EUR 9.00).

Position in POST Luxembourg's Crypto Stamp History

POST Luxembourg has issued crypto stamps for three consecutive years (2023, 2024, 2025). Each edition marked a different joint-issue scale: trilateral (Lion 2023), quadrilateral (Dragon 2024), quintilateral (Artemis 2025). POST Luxembourg is the only partner to have participated in each scaling milestone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Artemis for Luxembourg?

Artemis is goddess of the hunt, wilderness, and forests. The choice reflects Luxembourg's natural wealth: Despite its small area, the Grand Duchy is known for extensive forests, the UNESCO World Heritage Mëllerdall, and the Ardennes. With about 35% forest cover, Luxembourg has one of the highest forestation rates in Europe. Artemis as protective goddess of wilderness fits perfectly with Luxembourg's identity.

Why does the LU variant cost 10.30 EUR?

10.30 EUR matches the Luxembourg rate for a national registered letter size M — the larger letter format class. LU Cryptostamp 1.0 Lion (2023) and Crypto Stamp 2.0 Dragon (2024) each had 9.00 EUR (rate for non-registered standard letters). With Artemis 2025, POST Luxembourg switches to a higher tariff — a deliberate upgrade of the collector edition.

How many red Artemis stamps are there?

At a mintage of 15,000 and a 1% share for the red variant, this results in about 150 red Artemis stamps. This makes the red LU variant the rarest red variant of all five CS 6 editions — smaller than the AT/NL/BE/PT counterparts, which are typically produced in larger mintages.
