About the Hera Variant
Crypto Stamp 6 Hera is the second Austrian variant of the CS 6 edition, released alongside Zeus on 18 September 2025. Austria issued two stamps for this edition while other participating countries (Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Portugal) each issued one.
Mythological Background
Hera is the queen of the gods in Greek mythology, wife and sister of Zeus. She serves as goddess of marriage, birth, and family. Her iconographic attributes include:
- Peacock (sacred animal, feathers bearing the eyes of Argos)
- Cow (associated with the myth of Io)
- Pomegranate (fertility symbol)
- Diadem or crown (royal status)
- Scepter (ruling authority)
The Heraion at Argos, built in the 8th century BC, was her most significant temple.
Design
Lisa Filzi designed the Hera stamp, continuing the visual style established in CS 5.2 Dragon and the parallel Zeus variant. The design incorporates bright colors and layered composition. Zeus and Hera stamps were designed as a complementary pair, with visual elements that connect when displayed together.
Variant Distribution
The CS 6 Hera stamp exists in five color variants following the established rarity model:
- Schwarz (Black) - approximately 52.3% of total mintage
- Grün (Green) - approximately 26.7%
- Blau (Blue) - approximately 13.3%
- Gelb (Yellow) - approximately 6.7%
- Rot (Red) - approximately 1.0%
Total mintage: 150,000 stamps. Individual variant mintages not published.
Secondary Market Patterns
Early secondary market data shows Hera stamps trading at slight premiums compared to Zeus stamps of identical colors. Observed factors include:
- Collectors seeking single Austrian CS 6 stamps more frequently choose Zeus
- Set collectors require both stamps, creating relative scarcity for Hera
- Lower general recognition of Hera compared to Zeus affects initial demand patterns
Distribution Channels
CS 6 Hera was available from 18 September 2025 through:

- Austrian post offices
- Philately sales outlets

Series Context
CS 6 Hera represents the eleventh Austrian crypto stamp release since 2019. Together with Zeus, it marks the first instance of Austria issuing two stamps within a single CS edition. The dual release coincides with the 2025 quintilateral joint edition involving Austria, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Portugal.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the significance of Hera in Greek mythology?
Hera is queen of the gods, sister and wife of Zeus, protective goddess of marriage, birth, and family. In the Greek pantheon, she is one of the twelve Olympian gods and has her own temples and cult sites — the most famous in Argos, the Heraion. Her symbols are the peacock, the cow, and the pomegranate. On the CS 6 stamp, Lisa Filzi depicts Hera with her iconographic attributes.
Why do Hera and Zeus form a "divine couple" on the AT stamps?
The Zeus + Hera double edition reflects the mythological connection of both gods: they are a sister-wife pair and joint rulers of Olympus. In Lisa Filzi's design, the two stamps are designed so that placed side by side they form a coherent visual connection — either through complementary poses, a shared background, or symbolic connecting elements. Collectors who own the divine-couple set experience this set effect directly.
Does Hera or Zeus have higher collector value?
Both AT stamps of CS 6 have the same mintage and the same retail price (9.90 EUR). On the secondary market, a slight Hera premium typically establishes itself, because the divine-couple set only becomes complete by acquiring Hera plus Zeus — and collectors who want only one AT stamp tend toward the better-known Zeus. This asymmetric demand can give Hera stamps a slight scarcity premium. The pattern is still young, however, and may shift.
