USPS Stamp Art Collectibles (VeVe)

USPS Stamp Art Collectibles is the NFT programme of the United States Postal Service on the VeVe platform, launched on 2 November 2021 with the Day of the Dead edition. The programme comprises over 24 editions (as of February 2025) on Immutable X (Ethereum Layer 2). NFT-only model without physical counterparts, standard price USD 6 per NFT for common rarity with blind-box mechanic (Common/Uncommon/Rare/Ultra Rare/Secret Rare). Themes include cultural holidays (Day of the Dead, Lunar New Year, Christmas), environmental themes (Earth Day), US Presidents and brand collaborations. Many editions retain the original stamp designers, including Antonio Alcalá, Camille Chew, Luis Fitch and Spaeth Hill.

The Series: USPS Stamp Art Collectibles on VeVe

USPS Stamp Art Collectibles is the official NFT programme of the United States Postal Service in collaboration with the VeVe platform (ECOMI/Immutable Holdings Group, New Zealand). It was launched on 2 November 2021 with the Day of the Dead edition and has been continuously active since with over 24 documented editions (as of February 2025).

Programme Structure

The programme follows a clearly defined format:

  • Channel: Exclusively on the VeVe mobile app (iOS, Android)
  • Payment: VeVe Gems (1 Gem = $1 USD), purchasable via App Store In-App Purchase
  • Standard price: $6 per NFT for common rarity, $120 for Stamp Pane Art (large sheets)
  • Mechanic: Blind-box (buyers know only after purchase which rarity)
  • Rarities: Common → Uncommon → Rare → Ultra Rare → Secret Rare
  • Drop frequency: Several per year (typically 5-8 drops per year since 2022)
  • Availability: Global

Theme Categories

The USPS NFT editions can be grouped into five categories:

CategoryExamplesStrategy
1. Cultural occasionsDay of the Dead, Lunar New YearReflect diversity
2. Seasonal dropsA Visit from St. Nick, Snow GlobesChristmas collectors
3. Thematic dropsEarth Day, Presidential SeriesEducation/patriotism
4. Brand collaborationsWith Love and Kisses (Hershey)Pop-cultural cross-marketing
5. Stamp Pane ArtPane of 20 (for Lunar New Year etc.)Premium collectors

This cultural diversity is consistent with US diversity and fundamentally distinguishes USPS from focused programmes of other issuers (DE: architecture, IT: Posta Prioritaria, JP: Posukuma).

Tech Architecture

VeVe as Platform

VeVe (ECOMI/Immutable Holdings) is a mobile-first NFT platform with:

  • 500,000+ active users at USPS launch (Nov 2021)
  • 8M+ NFTs sold in total (as of late 2023)
  • Top-grossing entertainment app in Google Play and Apple App Store
  • Major IP partnerships: DC Comics, Marvel, Warner Bros, Cartoon Network, Tokidoki, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Star Trek, Ultraman, USPS

USPS thus joins a pop-cultural collector league — different from FR (classical-philatelic) or DE (AI-first). VeVe users are primarily interested in brand collectibles, not classical philately.

Immutable X on Ethereum

The blockchain architecture is Ethereum Layer 2 via Immutable X:

  • 9,000+ trades per second
  • Zero gas fees for users
  • 99.9% reduction in energy use vs. Ethereum L1
  • Carbon-neutral since March 2021 (VeVe commitment with $7M+ environmental grants)
  • ERC1967Proxy standard for smart contract

USPS smart contract: 0xa7aefead2f25972d80516628417ac46b3f2604af. External verification via immutascan.io. This makes USPS NFTs externally transparent — unlike Japan Post's private Rakuten chain.

AR Functions

VeVe NFTs support 3D Augmented Reality:

  • 3D models of stamp NFTs
  • Virtual showrooms (exhibition rooms) for collectors
  • AR photo mode: place NFTs in real world and photograph
  • Social sharing directly from the app

This AR experience component is unique in the crypto stamp space — all other issuers (FR/DE/IT/AT/JP) have only 2D NFTs without AR.

Artist Continuity

A noteworthy characteristic of the USPS NFT programme: many editions are created by the same designers who also design the physical stamps. This continuity creates a direct inheritance of classical stamp art tradition into the NFT space.

Unlike FR (different artists per NFTimbre edition), DE (AI-generated), or IT (internal philately department), USPS thus has a strong designer identity.

Secondary Market Logic

USPS NFTs have strong secondary market performance:

EditionAcquisition priceSecondary market peakMarkup
Day of Dead Common$6$158~26×
Day of Dead Ultra Rare$6$250+~42×
St. Nick Christmas (rarest)$6$250+~42×
Lunar New Year Tiger$6$42-100+7-17×

Secondary market fees on VeVe:

  • VeVe Marketplace Fee: 2.5%
  • USPS Licensor Fee: 2%
  • Total 4.5% on each secondary transaction

This continuous royalty stream for USPS is notable in the crypto stamp space: unlike FR/DE/IT, where issuers typically have no secondary market royalties after initial sale (except limited). USPS, however, earns continuously on each secondary sale — a forward-looking royalty strategy.

USPS is thus the commercially most successful and active G7 NFT stamp art issuer — even if structurally a special case (NFT-only).

Programme Outlook

USPS has no announced programme conclusion — as of February 2025, the programme runs actively with the 2025 drops (Lunar New Year Snake, With Love & Kisses, Presidential Series 4). VeVe as platform is established and sustainable (carbon-neutral, 8M NFTs sold, major IP partners).

Possible future drops:

  • Lunar New Year Horse 2026, Goat 2027, Monkey 2028, etc. (annual series)
  • Christmas drops 2025/2026 (seasonally established)
  • Stamp programme adaptations (e.g. Roy Lichtenstein 2023, Ruth Bader Ginsburg 2023, James Webb Pillars of Creation 2024)

USPS is thus the only long-term stable NFT stamp art source in the G7 space.
